Joyce Steinmetz uses a metered pole to take measurements on the Robert J. Walker, sunk on June 21, 1860 in the Atlantic Ocean approximately ten miles off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. The ship collided with a commercial schooner. The ship sunk within an hour and 20 of the 66 crew members died. The RJ Walker is an iron-hulled steam paddle wheeler, 132' long and now lies in 90' of water. The photo was taken as part of the Robert J. Walker Shipwreck Mapping Project.
