A red hake, Urophucis chuss, also known as a ling off the coast of New Jersey, USA. Red hake inhabit the continental shelf waters from Nova Scotia to North Carolina. North of Nova Scotia this species is thought to be rare; its sibling species, the white hake, Urophycis tenuis, is much more common in that region. Confusion still exists as to the identity of Urophycis species in Canadian waters, at least on the eastern part of the Scotian shelf. Red hake are most abundant from southwest Georges Bank to the New York Bight |
