Special Encounters

Over the years, I have had some encounters with marine life that I consider very special. I thought that it would be a good idea to tell you a little about these encounters. As more occur, I will include them. I hope that you find the encounters as special as I did.

Leatherback Turtle

Leatherback turtle
I was on a dive trip with members of a New Jersey dive club that I belong to - the Metuchen Underwater Divers (MUD) out of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. We were going to dive on some of the great shipwrecks found off the North Carolina coast. On our way out, the captain spotted a leatherback turtle on the surface. He also noticed that it was towing a buoy behind him. Please click the photo below or here to read about this special encounter.

Monkfish

I was diving off New Jersey on a very small wreck named the Keel Wreck. At the end of a rib, I saw a monkfish. It blended into the bottom beautifully. As I lay there, I took my first shot of the monkfish and was thrilled to be able to photograph it. Shortly thereafter, I felt my dive buddy, Joe Pakan, looking over my shoulder and my special encounter started. Click on the photo or here to read more about it.

Blue Shark Diving

The wind was howling when I arrived for a day of blue shark diving aboard the Snappa II, captained by Charlie Donilon, out of Point Judith, RI. My friends, Robin and Warren Reed and Beth and Wes Dalzell along with my lovely wife, Veronica and I wondered if we would leave the dock with the flags straight out. It was some day.here to read more about it.
