Sue Pakan

This is the situation that Sue kept us out of. She always kept a sharp look out for large ships. This one was a mistake on everyone's part. We dove a shipwreck out of Barnegat Inlet, New Jersey that was in the shipping lanes out of New York Harbor. This container ship came on the horizon just after Herb & his friend, Marty Monestere, started their dive. Marty surfaced a little before Herb and tried calling the container ship to let them know that we were anchored. They did not respond. Veronica and Marty had to start the boat and move as the container ship was going to hit the dive boat. The one good thing is that Herb did not come up the anchor line after his dive. This was the view that he had when he broke the surface. This photo was taken with a 20mm lens so the ship was really close. The container ship is where the dive boat was anchored. This was a close call.
