Nikon View software came with the Nikon D100. It has an image editing program called Nikon Edit. Nikon view allows viewing of raw files and they can be adjusted in Nikon Edit. I found the software easy to use, especially for people who are color challenged, which I am. First step is to open the Nikon View software and direct the program to your folder of raw images. I am going to choose the frilled anemone that is second from the left in the first row. I photographed it off New Jersey. Opening the editing software is simple. Click on the image and then click on the imaging editor icon in the toolbar. You can set your default imaging editor by choosing "Edit", "Preferences" and the "Still Image" tab. |

My first choice when I enter Nikon Edit is the auto contrast drop down. There are three choices: "Off", "With Color Change" and "With No Color Change". The last two produce different results and they are both worth looking at. The second choice is the Sharpening drop down box. The choices are: "Off", "Low", "Medium" and "High." |

You can also edit Brightness, Contrast, Red, Yellow and Green. Increase or decrease exposure by 0.3 EV increments and set the color balance. After you have made your adjustments, the photo can be saved in two different JPEG formats (EXIF and JFIF compliant) or as 8 bit or 16 bit Tiffs in RGB or CYMK format. I found the program easy to use and I liked that the images could be saved in 16 bit mode in case I wanted to do more editing in Photoshop. |
